Feeling Good!

Felt great to be back in the classroom today after being gone for the SLATE 2013 convention and then to recuperate from being sick. Lots of hand washing today :)  The students and I were all excited to open the extreme amount of mail we had.  After the students each opened one we shared the card and message with the entire class.  The Holiday Card Exchange cards are on display on our classroom door for all to observe.

The children have earned four classroom incentives for showing positive school wide behavior. Tomorrow is BRING YOUR FAVORITE STUFFED ANIMAL DAY!  So everyone remember there furry friend.

Also parts were assigned and highlighted for this Friday's Poetry Cafe and Tea.  The students should practice their poems especially their parts in preparation for Friday.  They have been working diligently in the classroom with focus on accuracy, rate and fluency.

Finally we are staring a new chapter in Math - Place Value.  Many important vocabulary words game home today to help build the understanding of this chapter.

See you all on Friday!

My Penguin Osbert Helps Us Write Letters to Santa

Today I read the story My Penguin Osbert by Elizabeth Cody Kimmel and the students found the temporal words within the story to help them sequence the events of the story.  After they shared with their friends about what they remembered about Last Year .. the students began to write their own Small Moment as it related to this Christmas time.  The concentration, thought, and content that they displayed was outstanding. Looking forward to tomorrow's lesson.

Magical Classroom Incentive!

Today we shared our PBIS Classroom Incentive with Ms. Cook's first grade class.  We started the incentive by sharing our Reader's Theater.  The princesses read "Cinderella Waiting" and then the princes read "In Search of Cinderella".  After this the students went to their respected tables and began to make their Cinderella Text to Teach Salad.  The building of the salad incorporated what we have been learning in the classroom about story elements.

Investigate It!

My Informational Presentation

Today at 8:25 a.m. in the classroom

Today the students will present their topics about weather using the www.biteslide.com  Biteslide engages students and helps them develop creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking.  The slidebooks are a fun way to incorporate these 21st century skills.  The essential questions that were the focus of this investigation include:
    • Why is it important for readers/writers to ask questions about key details?
    • How do authors’ choice of words and illustrations help us learn about a topic?
    • How do I share my knowledge about a topic I am interested in with others?

How Do We Find a Book in the Library!

Thanks to Elaine Rumney, Library Media Specialist, for coming into our classroom today to help the students understand how to find a book using Destiny Quest.

The students wore their PJ's to school today because they earned enough HODAG PAWS to have three classroom incentives.  One of which was Pajama Day with a movie :)

The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything

The students presented their Reader's Theater today to friends, family and other students.
They worked together, listened to each other and really understood the story.
I am so proud of them!
The 1st grade amazing cast always likes to pose for a picture, but they can't wait to do a silly one too!

The students also gave Lindsey a song of praise that made her and them shine!
