OUR MAMMAL REPORTS

Over the past four weeks the students have been investigating and researching bats, pumpkins and owls with a gradual release of responsibility.  They then chose an informational text related to a mammal that sparked their curiosity.  The students engaged  in a variety of  informational texts. They responded by creating a KWL that captures their knowledge, wondering, along with new, interesting, and unusual information.  Asking and answering questions also played an integral role in their investigations.  Students participated in language/word study and applied foundational skills in order to read appropriate texts and investigated their chosen mammal of interest. Once the reports were written they collaborated with other students to add details and strengthen their writing . Finally the students wrote An Informational Mammal Report and then using @Biteslide redesigned their report by adding photos and text.  Follow the link below to read their reports!

All About Owls!

This past week the students have been researching owls.  They used a KWL graphic organizer to guide their research. The students used illustrations and details within text to find new and interesting facts. They collaborated with peers to share their research.  After completing their research the students used @Biteslide to digitally tell about their research.  Check out their Digital Presentations following this link ~ All About Owls by Mrs. Lieck's 1st Graders
