Catch That Gingerbread Baby and Building Gingerbread Houses!

What an absolutely beautiful morning in our classroom! The day began with our Reader's Theater Catch That Gingerbread Baby (based on Jan's Brett's Book The Gingerbread Baby). Today we had our family members join in our shared reading. Next families worked together to build their own design of a gingerbread house. So thankful for my students and their families. May you all have a beautiful holiday season!

Hansel, Gretel and Fred

 Why I LOVE Shared Reading!

Today we presented Hansel, Gretel and Fred to family and friends.  I find Reader's Theater (Shared Reading) to be such an important part of a classroom curriculum.  The students build confidence and their love for reading.  As we develop and look at new scripts the students practice all their reading strategies, build meaning and comprehension, work as a team and read aloud while performing.

June and Kali as Gretel

Ben, Abram and Tripp as Hansel

Vivian and Emma as Weezie

Jonathan, Kara and Alexander as Gingerbread Man

Madelyn, Mariella and Hailey as Freddie Jean

 Carter and Presley as Fred

Emmaline, Mikenzie and Trenton as the Jelly Bears

You may have heard of the story Hansel and Gretel but you have probably never heard this version.  The setting of our next Reader’s Theater, Hansel, Gretel and Fred, takes place in a deep dark forest. It is early morning, Hansel and his sister, Gretel, are walking along eating crackers and leaving a trail of crumbs behind them.

Please join us on December 18th at 8:30
for our next Reader’s Theater!
Here is our cast:

Hansel – Abram, Tripp and Benjamin
Gretel – June and Kali
Weezie (the witch) – Emma, Vivian and Madelyn
Fred (a mouse) – Carter and Presley
Freddie Jean (Fred’s sister) – Mariella and Hailey

Why Are Bugs Important to Our Earth?

Bug Off!
Presented by Mrs. Lieck’s Kindergarten Students on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 8:30 a.m.

As we recognize Earth Day across the world today my students have been learning why the bugs are important to be on this Earth.  The students have been making reading fun by reading this narrative nonfiction script.  In this Reader’s Theater, Matt didn’t like bugs!  In fact he wished they would all just bug off!  One day, while Matt was trying to eat lunch in his backyard, four bugs came to visit him.  They bugged him, of course, and worse than that, they wouldn't leave!  Find out what Matt learned from his “buggy” new friends by joining us this Friday!

The cast is listed below:

Matt - Tripp, Abe and Presley
The Fly - Benjamin
The Ladybug - Vivian, June and Richie
The Ant - Hailey and Carter
The Bee - Kali, Kara and Emma

All bugs - Emmaline, Mikenzie, Madelyn and Destiny

The Gingerbread Baby Reader's Theater Tomorrow!!!

December 18, 2014

Dear Parents and Families,

We will be having our Christmas Reader’s Theater tomorrow, December 19, 2014, at 8:30 a.m.  Our Reader’s Theater is called The Gingerbread Baby. The students will be retelling the story to you using their voice and working together.  I am so proud of them!
PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRACTICE LINES TONIGHT!
Most of the students are doing very well, but rereading to tell the story will improve their accuracy and fluency :)

Also I wanted to let you all know that we will be having our Classroom Christmas Party on Monday, December 22, 2014.  The students in my classroom will be shopping at  Mrs. Lieck’s Christmas Store.  They will be looking for gifts for one of their classmates.  We are learning how it is so important to give rather than receive.

See you tomorrow,

Mrs. Lieck

Picture Walks, Connections, Syllables, Sorts, Shapes and Reader's Theater

Look What We Are Doing!

We can make connections to a story through rich picture walks!
Have your child talk with you about what they think is happening in the story.
What is happening in the story?

Think aloud to describe the illustration.

How can you connect to the story?

Who are the characters and where are they?

We can count, pronounce, blend and segment syllables!
We can sort by color, size and shape!

We are excited for our next Reader's Theater!
