David Wiesner Author Study

These young learners were very excited to become visual literacy experts as they were introduced to the books by David Wiesner!

My students chose their favorite illustration from the book Flotsam from David Wiesner and used Little Bird Tales to create their own design. Then they thought about the connection between the illustration and the text. As they explored the illustration they began to develop ideas of what an author would say to match it to the illustration.

Our next book to study was Art and Max by David Wiesner. Students used the illustrations to help them predict what is going to happen in the story and analyze the character.

They drew Arthur and added the colorful details to develop the illustration.  

 

Next they used adjectives to describe his actions and events throughout the story The students used Google Docs to share their new learning and also practiced taking a photo and adding it to their document!
