Vowel Bats and Working with Words!
Has your child been singing "Vowel Bat" this week?
We are having fun learning more about the vowels
a-e-i-o-u
This week we are also reviewing rhyming and letter names.
Also students are sorting words with short vowels and enjoying listening to stories.
Finally we are learning about the a very interesting mammal, the bat!
Students are identifying text features and interacting with stories on PebbleGo.
We had a special visitor today "Bat Man" otherwise known as Joel Knudtson.
Ask your child what else they have learned about bats?
Here is hoping you have a beautiful three day weekend! See you all on Monday :)

Morning Word Study
We are having fun using our reading strategies Eagle Eye, Lips the Fish and Stretchy the Snake to make new words. One of our favorite activities is Rime Time by Dr. Jean! Today our focus was on the "an", "et", "ot, and "ike" word families.
Also we are having fun with our letters and sounds. We are beginning to recognize the vowels and consonants. One of our favorite songs is Jack Hartmann's Vowel Sounds
Taking all of our new knowledge and making words and beginning to write sentences. Love beginning our day with the study of words!

Morning Message and Word Study
Who is the next contestant on "What is your name?"
The students began to complete the predictable sentences by finding their name, age and favorite color. Then they read the sentences by pointing to the words and going onto the next sentence to continue their reading.

Word Study and Activities
Hi Everyone! Today your child is bringing home their spelling words. This week's spelling words are focusing on a short vowel word study along with individualized spelling words based on your child needs.
The spelling words can be found in your child's Pelican Folder and they were also written in your child's Assignment Notebook. The students have a nightly writing sheet to practice their words and this should be returned daily to school. In addition, students can choose to do other activities.
Students individualized word study can also be found on Vocabulary Spelling City. You can find your child's list by going to my teacher page at https://www.spellingcity.com/mrslieck/ and then clicking on your child's name.
Your child can then complete the Spelling Teach Me activity by clicking each word on the list and select the Play A Game button to practice their words using any of Vocabulary Spelling City’s free activities.
Have Fun!
