 Tuesday, March 1:  Wear your favorite crazy socks to school.

 Wednesday, March 2: Come to school dressed in your wackiest outfit!

   Thursday, March 3: Bring in your favorite stuffed animal and share   

some reading time with them.

 Friday, March 4: Relax in your pajamas as a way to celebrate the end of the week!

Happy Tuesday! Today we began a new blog just for students! 

The students were introduced to the new website/app Seesaw. Seesaw is a digital literacy tool that empowers students to share their learning with others. The students are able to scan a QR code that is unique to our Blog and then find their name and begin to independently capture their learning through photos, videos, drawing, text and more. My hope is that the students will be inspired to create their own digital portfolios. 

Every Tuesday we will be participating in the Slice of Life Classroom Challenge. This is also new and interesting to us. We have so much to share everyday with you. Please let us know what you think by commenting on our posts. Today our writings are a little glimpse at our three day weekend :)

Digital Learning Day 2016!

Today began with sharing our love of reading with our 4K reading buddies.  They visited our room for the first time and we were so excited to begin making their digital stories about our books we were reading to them!

 

 

The students listened to the story The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires and then they wrote about their most magnificent thing they have ever built, made, cooked or helped with.  The students created a Google Document and typed it up.  Next they used Little Bird Tales to draw a image of their "Magnificent Thing".  Finally they uploaded the image to their Google Document.

Grandparents' Day 2016

Grandparents' Day ~ 

You Mean So Much To Us!

Grandparents warm your heart.  This week we had Grandparents' Day and the students were elated and overjoyed to greet their grandparents for lunch.  Watching the interactions of child and grandparent was so special.  Conversation was easily flowing and you could feel the love they had for each other.  Some of the grandparents have visited our school and classroom before but for some it was the first time.  The students were given the choice to take their grandparents on a scavenger hunt and then came back to our classroom where we had a special gift for them. 

Prior to this day the students made replicas of themselves as miniature graduates.  We made inferences based on the first part of the graduate, added details to strengthen our understanding and then revisited our previous inferences and made changes to our thinking.  We also calculated the year the students would be graduating. 

Next the students were introduced to a poem called The Best Grandparents.  They read the poem and then added color to it.  Then we made a symmetrical heart and glued everything onto a larger piece of paper. Finally they added a vivid colorful photo of themselves and the simple words "Thank You".

As the grandparents entered our classroom the students were able to show them around the classroom and share different things with them.  We ended our Grandparents' Day by reciting the poem to them and then giving them our gift.

Looking Ahead to The First Week of February 2016

GYM CLASS OUTSIDE THIS WEEK

Gym Classes on Monday and Friday will be outside for snowshoeing or skiing.  Please bring all outer wear to school so you can enjoy the fun and learning again this year!

February Write, Show and Share Schedule

Items brought for write show and share should be brought in a bag so others cannot see.  Children may bring in their Write, Show and Share item any time during their scheduled week. The children will be on a rotation schedule. The rotation is as follows beginning this Friday.
