Why I Do What I Do?
Today as parents gathered into the classroom to listen to their child or grandchild perform a part in our Reader's Theater with excited faces it reminded me that this is why I do what I do. It is because I want children to succeed. I want families to be part of their child's education. I want them to feel like they can come into the classroom anytime, call me, message me, etc ...
Thank you!
As the wind chill kept us from going outside AGAIN today, I went to the storage closet and brought in some toys from Kindergarten. The children were ecstatic! Dinosaurs were roaming, the child care center was busy with new babies and log homes were being built. As I looked at these little ones, I reflected on how much they do! THEY ARE SIMPLY AND HONESTLY AWESOME!
In our busy lives we sometimes forget to reflect, to thank someone, to just step back & watch.
Thank you ~ to the families, past and present, who have made me who I am today, who have believed in their children and supported education!

Arctic Animal Researchers Hard at Work!
The animals have been chosen and the researching has begun. The students ask themselves three questions that they were curious about before they read their books about their animals. Then they used "close reading strategies" to answer their questions. Finally they are putting together an Arctic Animal slide show using Biteslide. These students are so amazing :)

How Fast Does Ice Melt?
Be The First One to Melt Your Ice Cube!
Polar bears habitat depends on the sea ice and snow den. The polar bear adapts to the changes in seasons, and the melting of the sea ice, by eating lots of food during the winter months to survive through the summer. Today the students tried to see how fast an ice cube would melt through a fun and interactive science game. Thanks so much for coming into the classroom and helping with this science experiment Lindsey Lieck!

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! We had a busy morning. The day began with lots of sharing. Then we went to computer lab and began to create a shared tale using Little Bird Tales. Next in Math we learned how to regroup numbers into tens and ones. Then the students received their own logins for Sumdog and began to explore the math games using the netbooks. Finally the morning ended with Writer's Workshop and a Christmas vacation narrative.
